Oscar G. Flores

Oscar G. Flores, 76, of Ozona, Texas, has peacefully reached his final destination.

He was born on August 3, 1949. Oscar was proud of his roots and held the distinction of being one of only two Hispanic students to graduate from Ozona High School in the class of 1967, alongside his classmate and friend, the late Thomas DeHoyos. 

During his school years, he played both football and basketball. Outside of school, his true passion was baseball, the sport he loved above all others, especially when playing side-by-side with his brothers.

Following high school, Oscar began working in the oilfield before being drafted into the military a few years later. He bravely served his country in the United States Marine Corps. As a proud Marine, he carried that strength, honor, and loyalty through every day of his life, truly embodying the spirit of Semper Fi.

Upon completing his military service, Oscar returned home to the oilfield, dedicating most of his career to the industry. His strong work ethic shone brightly, and it was through his many years in the oilfield that he met some of his most special colleagues and lifelong friends.

A devout man of faith, Oscar's heart belonged completely to his church community, where he faithfully served in the Grupo de Oración, the Knights of Columbus, Spanish ACTS, ACTS Missions, and the Guadalupana Society. He found profound purpose and joy sharing his gifts as a Lector, a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Choir. Blessed with an angelic voice, Oscar had a deep love for music and found his greatest peace while singing praises to the Lord.

This sacred community truly became his hands and feet of Christ-welcoming him with open arms, enveloping him in unconditional love, and carrying him through his most difficult trials. They walked faithfully by his side as a living testament of God's grace, remaining a steady, prayerful presence until his very

last earthly day.

His family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to their family and friends for all the love, prayers, and support shown to them over these past nine and a half months. Oscar played the hand he was dealt like an absolute champ, knowing every card in his life had a divine purpose. His legacy of faith, strength, and unwavering love will live on forever in the hearts of those he left behind.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Elvira G. Higginbottom; his stepfather: Walter Higginbottom; his father: Xicotencati Flores; his sisters: Patsy Gutierrez, Elva Navarro, and Blanca Norma Zapata Flores; and his brothers: Walter Higginbottom Jr., Valentine Gonzales, and Henry Sanchez.

He is survived by his wife in Christ, Cynthia Flores; his daughters, Valerie Sanchez (Jeff), Vicky Lynn Flores (Jacob), and Tonya Perez, and Patrick Ramos (Connie).

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jeffery Dylan Sanchez, Mark Anthony Valadez, Oscar Vincent Valadez, Alyssa Rae Valadez, Alexandria Hemandez, Nicholas Hill, Austin Perez, Zachary Perez, Micaela Perez, Phoenix Cane Ramos, Chloe Kay Ramos, and Isaac Corbin Ramos; and his great-grandchildren: Dylan Matthew Sanchez, Oscar Vincent Valadez Jr., Sophia Lynn Valadez, Jordyn Elise Thames, Mila Perez, Lila Perez, Andrew Perez, Adam Perez, and Eliana Perez.

He is further survived by his siblings: Robert Flores (Mela), Ronald Higginbottom (Jennifer), Donald Higginbottom (Diana), Juana Umelia Martinez Flores, and Janell Tambunga (Jimmy). He also leaves behind his beloved grand-dog, Chloe, who brought him joy and faithfully took care of him; as well as nieces and nephews who he loved dearly, many friends, and his beloved church community. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 with a Funeral Mass at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Catholic Church in Ozona, Texas. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Preddy Funeral Home.
