The three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Y. Benge received emergency treatment here early this week when he drank a quantity of kerosene from a glass. Part of the fluid was sucked into the child’s lungs and fears were held for a time that complications might develop, but reports from the home the middle of the week indicate the youngster has recovered from the effects of the incident. Mr. Benge is the new owner of the Ozona Market, taking over the business by purchase last week from R. J. Cooke.

Action of the State Automatic Tax Board in Austin Monday in setting the state tax rate at 37 cents on the $100 valuation, a reduction of 35 cents in the state rate form 1946, provided a break needed by Crockett County taxpayers who otherwise faced a 55-cent raise in the local rate. Under the rates as finally fixed by the county and state, Crockett County taxpayers will pay property taxes at a total rate of $2.37 on the $100 valuation, divided into $1,20 for schools, 80 cents for county purposes and 37 cents for state taxes.

Crockett County Republicans hold a county convention at the courthouse in Ozona Saturday afternoon, August 4th, at 4 o’clock p. m., R. A. Harrell, Republican county chairman has announced. This will be the first full scale county convention ever held by the Republican party in this county. Principal purpose of the convention will be to name delegates to the state convention to be held August 28 in Corpus Christi.

AUTO SALESMAN — New in Ozona is Gene Henderson, native of Brady, who has just joined the Rutherford Motor Co. here as salesman. Mr. Henderson, recently out of the service, has been with Taylor Chevrolet in Abilene the past two months.

46 FOREIGN STUDENTS ENJOY WEST TEXAS BARBECUE - Although their bus was cut off by high water between Del Rio and Sonora, this group of students arrived in Ozona Friday in time for a typical West Texas barbecue goat dinner. The students, children of Lions Club members from 20 countries around the world, are on a six-week tour of Texas. They were guests of the Ozona Lions Club at the Granny Miller Hall here.
