An attractive wayside park has recently been completed on the highway east of Ozona on land donated for the purpose by Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Friend, Jr. The park was built by the maintenance division of the Highway Department, the Ozona Woman’s Club assisting in planning and securing the site. The club is making efforts to save another park built on the Barnhart road north of town, on land to be given by Floyd Henderson.

A short circuited wire in an automatic, oil burning water heater in the basement of the Hotel Ozona caused a run of the fire truck to the building last Friday. Fire chief Joe North and his crew turned water from the emergency tank carried on the truck and cooled off the smoking fixture after the electricity had been shut off. No damage was done by the fire, and the water heating equipment is being placed in first class condition by the hotel management.

Bids from contractors for construction of Ozona’s new Methodist Church will be received by the church’s building committee here on Wednesday, March 24. Scott Peters is chairman of the build committee. Haynes & Strange, Lubbock architects, have completed plans and specifications for the new structure and these have been approved by the congregation.
The new church home will be built of tile faced with brick and will include an auditorium with a seating capacity of approximately 300 and an education building for church school activities. Since the local Methodist Church was destroyed by fire March 7, 1942, the congregation has used the high school building and a business building in the downtown sector, known as the Methodist Center, which has been rented, for worship services and other church activities.

The Texas Blind Shops Caravan is in Ozona today for the annual sale of ironing boards, covers and pads, brooms, mops and floor mats, all products of Texas blind workmen in Blind Shops or Lighthouses. The Caravan is brought to Ozona, this the second year, by the Ozona Lions Club, with a double-barreled purpose, one, to help the blind sell their products and to earn a part of the fund for its own Little League program in Ozona. The trucks bearing the Blind Shops products will be parked in front of the Ozona post office all day and members of the Lions Club will make a house-to-house canvas in selling the articles. Several hundred dollars worth of products were sold here last year and the Lions hope to better their mark today.
